Yuang Liu studied film in New York, graduating with honours from NYU Tisch as a dual major, and spent the following years mostly on set: as execution director and first assistant director he brought a dozen or so short films through production, several of which went on to Busan, Rotterdam, Hiroshima and SXSW; he has also worked as production designer and producer. Since 2025 he has been applying the same on-set discipline to AI production, making a short film in Tokyo entirely with generative models and keeping the whole process on record. He works in English, Chinese and Japanese, holds Japanese work authorisation, and is moving from JLPT N2 towards N1.

Execution director (执行导演) is the Chinese-set credit for the job an American crew calls first AD: the schedule, the floor, the extras, the departments’ pace. This site writes "First AD" for it; where the original credit was the narrower 执行导演, it is written "assistant director".
